Coretta Scott King on Vacation

Derrick Adams' portrait set of Martin Luther King and his wife Coretta on a Jamaican vacation is based on rare photos of the couple at leisure. The couple is portrayed with a feeling of happiness and optimism about Black life, even amidst struggle. The renowned artist explains his mixed media technique, "In 2009, I started to really dig into collage work. It really came out of this desire to think about sculpture and performance because that's where I started as an artist."
